Jean Victoria Hovey

Jean Hovey, 85, of Rosebush, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018, at The Fountain of Love Assisted Living in Rosebush. A Funeral Mass for Jean will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, at St. Henrys Catholic Church in Rosebush with Father Ron Wagner as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Henry Cemetery with a luncheon following at St. Henry Center. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7:30 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hope Parish or Americans Home Hospice Care. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Jean was born February 4, 1933, in Worcester, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Harold and Irene (Valliere) Payea. She married Robert Hovey on May 30, 1953, at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Jean was a member of St. Henry Parish for over 60 years, serving on the Altar Society. Artistic and musically inclined, Jean played the piano and sang in the church choir for many years. She had a passion for painting, quilting, bird watching, and tending to her flower garden. During the past few years, she absolutely adored her barnyard cats and spent hours caring and playing with them. In years past Jean was in a bowling league and card club. When faced with a difficult situation, some favorite quotes were, I wish I knew a swear word right now and Getting old aint for sissies. Jean volunteered for many church and school functions and always put others needs ahead of her own. Her children described her as a compassionate Mom, good listener, and excellent cook. She had an incredible sense of humor and always saw the good in everyone. If you knew her, you loved her. We hit the jackpot having such an incredible wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all. Jean is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Robert; seven children, Richard Hovey of Mt. Pleasant, Leah (Drew) Dysinger, John (Kim) Hovey, and Mark Hovey, all of Rosebush, Lisa (Brooks) Loflin of Austin TX, David (Sandra) Hovey of Round Rock, TX, and Jeff (Maggie) Hovey of Rosebush; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barbara Payne; and step-sister, Vivian (and Bob) Albert.
