Jerry Vogel, 79, of Rosebush, passed away at his home, Friday, June 12, 2009, surrounded by his family after a nine month battle with brain cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Michael Fountain OFM Cap. presiding. Interment will be in St. Henry Cemetery with full Military Honors. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. and Sunday from 2-9 p.m. at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., Mt. Pleasant, with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Monday one hour prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice, St. Cecilia School or St. Henry Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Jerry was born Nov. 5, 1929, in Helena, the son of George and Clara (Essenmacher) Vogel. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict. On August 23, 1958, he married Janice Fountain at St. Michael Catholic Church in Remus. He owned and operated Jerrys Transmission Service since 1970, first in Mt. Pleasant and later in Rosebush. He belonged to the American Legion 383 in Rosebush of which he was Commander for the past 19 years, and was also a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Rosebush. Jerry enjoyed working in his yard and tending to his garden and fruit trees. He was fond of playing cards, polka music and attended many Sunday dances. But most of all he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly. Jerry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice; children, David (Pamela) Vogel of Rosebush, Joan (Bernie Bramer) Vogel of Beaverton, Donna (Thomas) Fox of Beal City, Judith (Dennis) Haag of Lenox Township, Deborah (Charles) Novak of Longmont, CO, Gerard (Linda) Vogel of Mt. Pleasant, Francis (Sandra) Vogel of Winn, Phillip (Amy) Vogel of Rosebush, Barbara (Robert) Vandaveer of Clare, Bernard (Anna) Vogel of Mt. Pleasant, Marilyn (Gregory) Gray of Clare, Matthew (Kimberly) Vogel of Mt. Pleasant, Marie (Don) Johnson of Daphne, AL, Denise Vogel of Rosebush, and Jane West of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Andrea and Peter Vogel, Angela (Harley) Ferree, Aaron, Joel, and Joshua Schocknesse, Patrick and Michael Fox, Ryan (Rachel), Christopher, and Adam Haag, Emily and Quincy Novak, Marcus and Whitley Vogel, Kristina (Matthew) Saxton and Todd Vogel, Katherine, Sylvia, and Gabrielle Vogel, Clayton and Remington Vandaveer, Quinten and Haileigh Vogel, Vincent, Samantha, Sarah, Cecilia, Benjamin, and James Gray, Matthew Reinke, Natalie and Claire Vogel, Nina Hohlbein and Olivia Johnson, Jacquilin, and Joseph and Jasmine West; great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Andrew, and Ava Ferree, Thomas, Hunter, Blake and Logan Schocknesse, Cecilia Haag, Kordell Vogel, and Seth Saxton. Also surviving are his brothers, Raymond Vogel of Helena, Daniel (Millie) Vogel of Minden City, and Herbert (Patricia) Vogel of Helena; and his sister, Rose (Doug) Banker of Sandusky; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marcus; and sister, Lillian.
