Jo Palm, age 74, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at her home. Jo was born March 1, 1940 in Cadillac, daughter of the late Robert and Anne (Larson) Beauchamp. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and held bachelors and masters degrees in special education from Central Michigan University. She married Albert Palm in 1962 in Mt. Pleasant. She began her teaching career in Garden City, and also taught in public schools in Grand Haven, Clare, Santa Rosa, CA and at the University of Iowa Hospital School. She taught at West Intermediate School in Mt. Pleasant from 1970 until her retirement in 2001. As a teacher-leader, she helped develop and implement several important school and district-wide projects. Jo was a compassionate and gifted teacher, and generations of students speak of Mrs. Palms influence on them. Following retirement, she received her Master Gardener certification and served on the Friends of the Veterans Memorial Library Board for 10 years. She chaired the librarys Book Sale Committee through 2013. She took great joy in these pursuits. Jo is survived by her loving family: husband, Al; daughters, Kristin of Oakland, CA and Kara of Fullerton, CA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, James Beauchamp. Her memorial service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 4 p.m. at Lux Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Nancy Casey Fulton officiating. A luncheon will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, June 27, from 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Womens Aid Service (P.O. Box 743, Mt. Pleasant MI 48804-0743) or Friends of the Veterans Memorial Library (301 S. University, Mt. Pleasant MI 48858).
