Joan Fleischman, 70, of Remus, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Woodland Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant. Joan was born January 3, 1953, in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Michael and Agnes (McHugh) Duffy. At the age of 17 she enrolled in college. Two years later she married the love of her life, James Fleischman on September 30, 1972, in Saint Edwards Church in New Fairfield, CT. After a five-year stint as a bank teller, Joan started with a large, privately owned, textile company as a proofreader in Danbury, CT. Self-taught in computers, she helped develop business software for Great Plains Software (later purchased by Microsoft). She eventually retired from Fairfield Processing as the Director of Information Technology 38 years later. Joan was well-rounded in talent and was a fashion model throughout her childhood. She was an accomplished equestrian, owning multiple horses, in both English Jumping and Western Disciplines. She was also a licensed private pilot and airplane owner. And if that isn't impressive enough, she was a small bore rifle marksman in the distance competition event held at the Isabella County Sportsman's Club. A sports car and car show enthusiast, Joan took delivery of a 2021 Corvette from the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. More than all of her accolades, Joan loved her family, and as a master cook, she was able to provide them with delectable meals. Joan is survived by her husband, James; brother, Michael (Jill) Duffy of Jacksonville, FL; sisters, Erin Duffy of Sherman, CT, and Noreen Granbery of New Hampshire; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Mary Corwin. A memorial service for Joan will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Jim Damitio officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to charity of your choice or the wishes of family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
