John A. Beltinck, 84, of Mt. Pleasant died peacefully Saturday, August 16, 2003 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. John was born February 15, 1919, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Romia and Edith (Faber) Beltinck. He married Ethel Banker November 7, 1942 at Sacred Heart. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1936 and in 1938 became owner of Gambles Hardware Store in Carson City, a business he would own until his enlistment in the Army-Air Force in 1941. He served in the European Theatre during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. He spent the majority of his career working 20 years as an operator at Roosevelt Refinery, which later became known as Total Petroleum and retired from Central Michigan University in 1984. John also served Sacred Heart Parish as the sexton for Calvary Cemetery from 1975-1990. John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ethel Beltinck of Mt. Pleasant; eight children, Julie (Richard) Ulander of Texas, Richard (Ruth) Beltinck, Martha Ann (Daniel) Clare and William Beltinck, all of Mt. Pleasant, Rosemary (Andrew) Whitlock of Newaygo, Teresa (Mark) Clark of Troy, Katherine (Chris) Overhuel of Caledonia, and Patricia Beltinck of Mt. Pleasant; 14 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Rosaleen Zoleski, Geraldine Zeneberg and Jean Bieske, all of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters-in-law, Keitha Beltinck and Phylis Darling of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Betsy Beltinck; five brothers, Roy, Raymond, Myles, Francis Bud , and Romia Jr.; and a sister, Betty Rich.
