John Alvarado, 95, of Blanchard, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023, at his home, with his family by his side. Cremation has taken place at Memorial Fields Crematory and his memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 15, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with David Cross officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest in Pine River Cemetery, Blanchard, in a private family service. John was born June 21, 1928, in Galveston, TX. He was the eldest of seven children born to the late Juan and Victoria (Guerra) Alvarado. He graduated from Bay City High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952, during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant, first class. John married Jill N. Clark on March 2, 1964, in Indiana. He was employed by General Motors Truck and Bus Flint Assembly for 41 years, retiring as a health and safety representative. He was also a member of the UAW Local 598. In the late 1980's he and Jill moved to Mt. Pleasant. Some of his favorite pastimes were woodworking, working outside, and gun collecting. John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jill; three children, Mark L. Alvarado of Chattanooga, TN, Cynthia (Chris) Woodthorp of Blanchard, and Sandra (Chris) Lafferty of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Elyssa (Curtis) Norman, Alexis (Dominic) Sobota, AnnaKate Lafferty and Megan Lafferty; and one great grandson, Pierce Norman. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. John was a member of the Vestaburg Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, baptized in 1994. He strongly believed Jesus' words at John 5:28, 28: "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, and those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment." So now John sleeps peacefully in Jehovah's memory and awaits the day that Jehovah awakes him from his rest. His family anxiously awaits the day he returns to them.
