John F. "Jiggs" Macdonald

John F. Jiggs MacDonald, 74, of Farwell passed away at home Friday, March 30, 2007 surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, at St. Joseph The Worker Church in Beal City with Father Thomas J. McNamara presiding. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. John was born January 5, 1933, in Inverness Nova Scotia, Canada, the son of John C. and Catherine (MacDonald) MacDonald. He married Mary OBrien on August 9, 1969 in Montgomery, New York. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction of oil and gas pipelines for Operating Engineers Local 324 before retiring in 1997. He enjoyed going to auctions, flea markets and was especially fond of tinkering with his tractors. Johns greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and friends. John is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; six children, Cathy (Bernie) Gianotta of Aurora, CO, John MacDonald, Danny MacDonald, Kieran (Jamie) MacDonald, Bernadette MacDonald and Michael MacDonald all of Mt. Pleasant; one brother, John R. MacDonald of Ontario, Canada; sister-in-law, Doreen MacDonald of New Waterford, Nova Scotia; and five grandchildren, Bridgid, Luke, Catriona, Dominic Gianotta and John Michael MacDonald with the sixth grandchild, Conner Alexander MacDonald, due to arrive in three weeks. He was preceded in death by his parents John C. and Catherine; one sister, Catherine MacDonald; and three brothers, Alex, Hank, and D.A. MacDonald.
