John Edward Loper Sr, age 78 of Blanchard passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was born on January 18, 1939 to Charles and Elsie (Baker) Loper in Slocum, MI. He grew up in the Bailey, MI area and attended Popular Valley Schools. Ed served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On April 5, 1974 Ed married Connie Slyter in Rockford, MI. Ed worked most of his life as a truck tire specialist. His most enjoyable moments were when he was doing woodworking, fishing, playing his guitar and most of all he loved to tease anyone he could.

Ed leaves behind his cherished wife, Connie; 4 daughters, Deborah Corbin, Victoria (Dewayn) Faber, Christina (Jason) Utter and Tasha Reed; 1 son, John (Marcy) Loper, Jr; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters and 3 brothers; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Ed will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Edmore with Pastor Aaron Hadley officiating. The family will greet people one hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. The family will also greet people at a visitation on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Maier Family Funeral Home, 5483 W. Weidman Road, Weidman, MI.

Memorial donations in Ed's memory may be made to Maier Family Funeral Home to help the family with the funeral expenses. Envelopes will be available at the church and funeral home.
