John Jack G. McGuirk, 81, of Lansing and formerly of Mt. Pleasant died Friday, Feb. 19, 2004, in Lansing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 6-8. There will be a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Monday. Jack was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Robert Emmett and Margaret Therese (McGuirk) McGuirk. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was part of the SW Pacific Theater of Operations in New Guinea. He later spent most of his life working for the State of Michigan as an investigator for the Secretary of States office. Jack loved playing golf most of all, but he also enjoyed snow skiing and cross country skiing in his earlier years. John is survived by his brother Joseph McGuirk of Mt. Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert Francis and William Bill McGuirk; five sisters, Rose Marie McGuirk, Beatrice Brock, Eileen Munn, Aletha Brown, and Jeanne Rowland; and two infant brothers.
