John M. Nolan

John M. Nolan, 76, of Mt. Pleasant died Monday, April 21, 2003, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Richard Jozwiak officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Lux Funeral Home on Thursday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Cancer Services. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. John was born March 2, 1927, in St. Clair County, the son of George and Gertrude (Shanahan) Nolan. He married Deloris LaBerge on September 13, 1952, at St. Francis DeSales in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1948 during World War II. He worked for Air Service Corporation as a pipeline patrol pilot, a company he later owned. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish where he served as an usher and also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council 1297. John is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Deloris of Mt. Pleasant; five loving children, Daniel (Cindy) Nolan of Metairie, La., Michael Nolan of Grand Rapids, Mary Anne (Bill) Perlmutter of Rockford, Thomas (Penny) Nolan of Perth, Western Australia, and Patricia (Jay) Stephan of Grand Rapids; 10 grandchildren, two brothers, David (Donna) Nolan of Canadian Lakes and Fred Nolan of Cass City; a sister in law, Joann Nolan of Westland; and a brother in law, Bob Egan. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Carol Nolan in 1985; two sisters, Mary Ellen Egan and Agnes Whitehead; and two brothers, Thomas Nolan and Robert Nolan.
