John Peters, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Central Michigan Community Hospital. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., with Pastor Jeremy Selvidge officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and on Thursday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. John was born April 2, 1933, in Wilkes Barre, PA, the son of the late John and Leah (George) Peters. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953. He was a jeweler and a watch repairman for Dodd Jewelers in Cincinnati, OH and at one time had his pilots license. He was an avid gun collector and in addition to shooting, he also enjoyed reading. John is survived by two daughters, Jill (Robert) Huff and Maria Thompson, both of Remus; six grandchildren, Sarah (Casey) Denslow, John Huff, Elizabeth Peters, Johnetta Peters, Geneva Peters, and Patricia Peters; one great-grandson, Cameron Denslow; and his companion, Norma Rapp of Mt. Pleasant and her children, Wayne Jackson, Danny Jackson, Bobbie (Jesus) Valtera, Carrie (Dan) Naumes, Timothy Jackson, Steven Jackson, and Joseph (Monica) Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; and son, John A. Peters.
