John E. Swetz

John Swetz Sr., 90, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015, at Isabella County Medical Care Facility. A Funeral Mass for John will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Thomas Held presiding. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to Mass. A luncheon will follow at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. John was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late Joseph and Katherine (Dubek) Swetz. He married Alberta Swetz on October 19, 1948, at Sacred Heart Church. He loved playing poker, bowling, golfing, doing magic tricks, watching the Tigers, and traveling. In retirement, he and his wife, Bert, played cards every day. He also wrote many poems. John is survived by three children, JoAnn (Mark) Bingham of Mt. Pleasant, John (Kathy) Swetz of Mt. Pleasant and Kathy (Henry) Holthof of Midland; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Chuck) McGuirk, Chrissie (Freddy) Makinen, John Swetz III, Steven (Jennifer) Swetz, Patrick (Julie) Holthof and Christopher Holthof; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Carol Swetz of Mt. Pleasant; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alberta Bert and four siblings, Margaret Rogers, Joe Swetz, Steve Swetz, and Tony Swetz.
