John Wieferich, 43, of St. Johns and formerly of Mt. Pleasant passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 13, 2014, near Greenville. His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. Cremation will follow and his ashes will be interred in St. Patrick Cemetery in Irishtown. The family will receive friends at Lux Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant on Monday from 3-8 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wieferich family for the education of Johns sons. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. John was born October 26, 1970, in Midland, son of Thomas H. and Sharon K. (Phipps) Wieferich. He married Jody Wing on Aug. 20, 2013 in Ocean Isle, North Carolina. He had been employed by Lalone Trucking the past four years. Prior to that, he had worked at Central Michigan Lumber. John had a contractors license and owned and operated Wieferich Builders. He was wonderful at building and woodworking. Some of his favorite pastimes included participating in lawnmower racing, NASCAR, dirt track racing, and ATV-ing. If a race had a motor, he enjoyed it. John is survived by his wife, Jody Wieferich; two sons, Dillon and Ben Wieferich of Mt. Pleasant; step-son, Jacob Western of St. Johns; mother, Sharon Wieferich of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, Matthew (Barb) of Mt. Pleasant, Mark (Vanessa) of Shepherd; sister, Kristen Wieferich of Kalamazoo; parents-in-law, Jeff and Jill Wing of St. Johns; maternal grandmother, Virginia Phipps of Mt. Pleasant; paternal grandmother, Arlene Wieferich of Mt. Pleasant; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas; infant sister, Michelle; maternal grandfather, Wayne Phipps; and paternal grandfather, Clarence Wieferich.
