Johnathan Scott Hitchcock was born on August 26, 2003 and passed away on December 20, 2025 at the age of 22 years old.
John was born in Rapid City, SD and spent many years living in South Dakota. In 2017 he moved to Michigan where he spent the rest of his life.
John was truly one in a million! He was always eager to help others and accepted payment only in the form of hugs or baked goods. Putting the needs of others before his own was easy for him to do. His compassion seemed to know no bounds. John loved to play games: board games, card games, games on the trampoline, or made up games in the house or in the yard. He also liked to play tricks on people or give you a "wet willy" with his little toddler fingers that practically stuck clear into your brain. He was an energetic little boy who grew up to be a truly good man. John was an "old soul" who had a fascination with history, loved classic rock, and swimming. During his time at Vestaburg High School he was a member of the quiz bowl team and was proud of participating in the "Backpack Buddies" program. While there he also created a "Lest We Forget" wall to recognize local veterans during the month of November. John always said that if he won the lottery he wanted to make a trailer that featured military history and honored veterans and take that trailer around to local schools and events to show people the importance of remembering those who stood up to defend our freedom. He had a soft spot for all animals, especially the family dogs Buddy and Cooper and loved playing fetch and running in the yard with them. John loved watching WWE wrestling with L.A. Knight being his favorite wrestler.
John had a very special relationship with his Dad. They were best friends. Corey and John spent many hours building things together in the garage, riding bikes on the deck, swimming and just hanging out by the fire pit.
John is survived by his parents Corey and Rachel Koeppen, younger brother Hunter, Grandparents Jeff and Laurie Bartling, and Earl and Patty Koeppen, Uncles Andy (Katie) Bartling, Adam Bartling, Aunt Heidi Koeppen and cousins Mariah and Jaxson. He also leaves behind many extended family members, including great grandparents Joyce Carlson, Lem Tingley and special friend Sandy Evans, and Dave and Jean Rodgers.
