Jonas E. Cook IV, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully at home on September 21, 2022, with his family by his side. He was born on March 16, 1944, in Owosso, Michigan and graduated from Owosso High School in 1962. Jonas earned a B.S. in Accounting from Michigan State University (MSU) and became a Certified Public Accountant early in his career at Ernst & Ernst Accounting Services in Lansing. After returning to MSU as an Assistant Controller, he met Jeanne Lange, and they were married at the MSU chapel in 1975. Jonas would later continue his career at Central Michigan University (CMU) after accepting the position of Controller in 1986. He served in many capacities at CMU and retired as the Associate Vice President of Financial Services & Reporting in 2006. Throughout his career, Jonas was committed to establishing and maintaining strong working relationships built on mutual respect, trust, and recognition of others' contributions and perspectives. He was very grateful for the friendships he developed in and out of the workplace. Jonas was also involved with the Isabella County Big Brothers Big Sisters, volunteered for Isabella County Christmas Outreach, and currently held a seat on the Deerfield Township Planning Commission. He cherished the time he spent with family (including many beloved in-laws) and friends, particularly at the family cottage on Long Lake in Ionia County spanning over 40 years. Jonas enjoyed golfing, attending MSU sporting events, boating, playing cribbage, fishing, and hunting. He will be dearly missed and remembered by his family and friends for his quick wit, sense of humor, devotion to loved ones, integrity, fairness, and guidance. Jonas is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jeanne; children, Jessica (Charles) Hughes of Sacramento, California, and Justin Cook of Mt. Pleasant; adored grandson, Henry Hughes; sisters, Carol Reid of Detroit and Elizabeth Kellogg of Haslett; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Giles and Dorothy (Amos) Cook; stepfather, John Hardy; and brother, Giles Cook II. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. The family will receive guests at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, which will be immediately followed by a luncheon in the Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
