Jose Rodriguez, 74, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Pompano Beach, FL, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will take place. The family is being served by the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions may be made to the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Jose was born Dec. 19, 1934, in Puerto Rico, the son of the late Jose and Maria (Estrada) Rodriguez. He grew up in Puerto Rico later moving to Southgate, MI where he was a bartender at Pontchartrain Hotel. He married Phyllis Beauchamp-Amroian on Aug. 1, 1978, in New York City. In his retirement he and his wife moved to Pompano Beach, FL to enjoy both the warm weather and the beautiful ocean. In Nov. 2008 they moved to Mt. Pleasant to be closer to family. He enjoyed baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers (and had a fondness for the Yankees, too), gardening, and caring for friends pets. While retired, Jose worked at Boca Hotel until he became ill in May 2008. Jose is survived by three step-sons, Vincent Amroian of Traverse City, Michael (Cristina) Amroian of Houston, TX, and Edward Amroian of Mt. Pleasant; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Amroian of Traverse City; grandchildren, Sara, Jared, Nicholas, and Isabelle Amroian; and one great-granddaughter, Anela Amroian-Hughes. He also leaves family in New York City and Puerto Rico. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis on May 8, 2009; and step-son, Mark Edward Amroian.
