Joseph Lee Billings, 59 of Alma, formerly from Hanahan, South Carolina, passed away on November 30, 2021. Joe was born July 20, 1962, in Saginaw, Mi. He is the son of the late Louis and Emma (Wierman) Billings. He Married Karie Thomas, in 2008, in South Carolina; she passed away in 2017. His pride and joy was his son, Jacob Billings. To most his friends he was known as "Big Joe". He worked for Mawson and Mawson Trucking in South Carolina. When he moved to Michigan, he worked for Hessbrook Farms Trucking LCC. Everyone there called him "Unc". Everybody loved his grilling expertise! He made the best grilled ham and dirty rice. On New Years Day, he always cooked Hoppin Johns, collard greens, and corn bread. We will all truly miss these amazing dishes! He enjoyed get togethers with family and friends! Joe was the one to go to if you needed a laugh. He acted gruff but was a big teddy bear! He loved football; he enjoyed watching his son, Jacob, play growing up, loved watching his favorite team, Clemson; he also enjoyed watching and cheering on his great nephew who plays for Alma. He is survived by his son, Jacob Billings (Hannah) of Charleston, South Carolina; special friend, Donna Stokes of Alma; siblings, Lester (Cyndi) Billings of Charleston, South Carolina, Marilyn Elliott of Ithaca, James Billings of Summerville, South Carolina; stepsisters, Deborah McNinch of Alma, Rhonda O Driscoll of Alma, Karen Brown of Colorado; stepmother, Patricia Billings of St. Louis; several (great) nieces and nephews, and cousins. His very special 93-year-old aunt Margaret of Carrollton, and several dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rex Wierman; brother-in-law, David McNinch; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Per his wishes, he has been cremated. A celebration of his life will take place this coming summer with what else but a big ole barbeque! A date will be announced at a later time.
