Joseph Hartupee, 78, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Sunday, February 4, 2018, at his home with his family by his side. A dinner in Joes honor will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 10, at Lincoln Reception Center (connected to Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home). Joes life will be celebrated during the meal, officiated by Daryl Amrozowicz. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the service. Joe was born August 28, 1939, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late James Arthur and Mary Ann (McGuirk) Hartupee. He married Caroline Connie Render on August 29, 1959, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Coleman. He was employed by Central Michigan University in the equipment room for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. Joe was an avid sports fan. He loved watching Notre Dame football. Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, camping, bowling, playing baseball, horseshoes, badminton, and playing cards. He always enjoyed a good game of PIG on the basketball court, involving lots of trick shots. Known as being a practical joker, Joe loved being outdoors, go on walks, and cutting wood. But more than anything, he loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren. Joe is survived by three children, Joseph Hartupee Jr., Garry Hartupee (Becky Emelander), and Carol (Jason) Pyles, all of Mt. Pleasant; six grandchildren, Kyle and Ty Hartupee, Alyssa and Hanna Hamilton, and Charli and Elilzabeth Pyles; siblings, Robert Bob Hartupee, James Jack Hartupee, Jeanne Welch, and Margaret Margo (Mike) Merchand, all of Mt. Pleasant; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Hartupee; wife, Caroline Connie Hartupee (1977); and sister, Patricia Backus. The family extends its deepest gratitude to Jon Daniels PA-C, and Heartland Hospice, both of whom gave exceptional care, with love and compassion.
