Joseph Johnston, 62, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at Woodland Hospice. His funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 28, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Pastor Brian LaMew of Mt. Pleasant Community Church officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Visitation continues on Tuesday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice or Special Olympics. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Joe was born Sept. 23, 1948, in Chesaning, the son of the late William and Louise (Grecar) Johnston. A graduate of Farwell High School, he married Barbara Warner in 1967. After her death in 2000, Joe married Nora Showalter Kusbel on Sept. 23, 2004. He was employed as a line man for Consumers Power for 13 years, retiring in 1981. A lover of the outdoors, Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. He worked as a guide on Munuscong Bay in Michigans Upper Peninsula and was a member of the National Trappers Association. Joe is survived by his wife, Nora of Mt. Pleasant; three children, Tammie (Tom) Wolfe of Waterford, Jeffery Johnston of Mt. Pleasant and Joseph C. (Jennifer) Johnston of Harrison; three grandchildren, Samantha and Melissa Wolfe and Morgan Johnston; three step-children, Daniel (Becky) Kusbel of Mt. Pleasant, Juli Kusbel of Blanchard and James Hughes of Mt. Pleasant; two step-grandchildren, Georgia and Brendan Kusbel; and four siblings, Bob (Marilee) Johnston of Sandusky, Kay (Bruce) Jarvis and Sally (Jack) Schultz, both of Chesaning and Mary Farrell of San Antonio TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife; step-son, Daryl Kusbel; and brother-in-law, Dick Gross.
