Joseph Stanwick, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017, at The Laurels of Mt. Pleasant. A Funeral Mass for Joseph will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant. A luncheon will immediately follow at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Cremation will take place after Mass and his ashes will be interred in Calvary Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Joseph was born November 9, 1922, in Denver Township, Isabella County, Michigan, son of the late John and Nellie (Winarski) Stankiewicz. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946 during World War II. On February 21, 1946, he married Jean Jessie Ramsey at Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Pleasant. Joseph was employed as an extruder operator in the plastics division at Dow Chemical in Midland, Michigan for 35 years. He enjoyed woodworking and was very handy at fixing most anything. He even built his own home. But more than anything, Joseph enjoyed being with his family and especially enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joseph is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jean; four children, Linda Stanwick of Mt. Pleasant; John (Nancy) Stanwick of Mt. Pleasant, Bill Stanwick of Lansing, and Rob Stanwick of Mt. Pleasant; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nellie Stankiewicz; five siblings, Sylvia Roeder, Adam Stankiewicz, Walter Stanwick, Frank Stankiewicz, and Jean Wehr; and seven step-siblings.
