Justine Lucille Bernard

Justine Bernard, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021, at Green Acres Assisted Living.  Justine was born April 7, 1928, in Lansing, Michigan, daughter of the late Charles and Leona (Shaver) Lavey.  She graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in Detroit in 1946.  Justine continued her education in Adrian at the Sienna Heights College.  On July 26, 1952, she married the love of her life, Richard Bernard, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Lansing.  Together they raised their four children.  Justine worked for several years in the office for Oldsmobile and then a couple of years at CMU part time in the registrar's office.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening, walking, and biking. She also loved playing cards and spending time in Northern Michigan at the lake. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Ladies' Altar Society.  Justine is survived by her husband of 68 years, Richard; children, Milissa Bernard of Houghton Lake, Marcella (James) Herndon of Washington, Oklahoma, Melinda Bernard of Mt. Pleasant, and Mike Bernard of Roscommon; grandchildren, Garth, Noel, Matthew, Anna, Brett, and Jamie; great grandchild, Nolan Cooper; and brother-in-law, Jim Wagner of California. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marcella Wagner.   Cremation has taken place. A Mass of Celebration for Justine will take place at a future date.
