Karen Cashen, 79, of Lansing, and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023, in Lansing. Karen was born January 19, 1943, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, daughter of the late Keith and Helen (Long) Ritchie. A 1961 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, she married Leonard Cashen on July 20, 1963, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant. Karen was employed by Mt. Pleasant Public Schools for many years as an administrative assistant. She loved to travel with her husband, had a soft spot for animals, had a fondness for lighthouses, and enjoyed camping and the beauty of nature. Another passion of Karen's was traveling to Branson, MO and watching Broadway Musicals with her friend Betty. Karen is survived by three children, Penni (James) Sweeney of Dewitt, Kirk (Christi) Cashen of Bath, and Tammy (Kenneth) Weishuhn of Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren, Katie and Sara Sweeney, Emily (Kyle) Funcheon, Megan (Zack) Seddon, Spencer (Bella LeClair) Cashen, Jacob Weishuhn, Allison Weishuhn, and Kyle Weishuhn; two great grandchildren, Baylor Seddon and Klay Funcheon; and sister, Kay Keeley of Sanford. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Leonard. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass for Karen will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to Mass. Following the Mass, all are invited to a luncheon at Lincoln Reception Center (attached to Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home). Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS). Envelopes will be available at the church and funeral home.
