Karen Louise Smale

Karen Smale, 56, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Kirby's Shady Oak AFC Home with her family by her side. Karen was the youngest of five daughters and was born July 19, 1967, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, daughter of the late George M. and Shirley J. (Ingersoll) Smale. She was employed by Mid-Michigan Industries since 2013 and enjoyed cutting and pasting magazines and doing artwork. Karen is survived by her sisters, Dolores (Steve) Cline of Mt. Pleasant, Kathy (Tom) Beard of Vestaburg, Brenda (Jack) Grim of Shepherd, and Janet (Dean) Cook of Shepherd; nieces and nephews, Janelle (Jon) Joslin, Charlie (Jennifer) Cline, Melissa (Joel) Clark, Rashel Johnson, Shane Grim, Scott (Brittany) Grim, Sheldon (Melissa) Grim, and Jamie Machuta (Sheldon Sanderson), Ashley (Josh) Topper, and Alicia (Mike) Durham; 15 grandnieces and grandnephews; and 8 great grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and paternal grandparents, Floyd and Billie Smale. The family would like to give a special thank you to the Shady Oak staff for the amazing and loving care she received for the last 12 years. There will be a private family funeral held for Karen and she will be laid to rest in Chippewa Township Cemetery next to her mother. Memorial contributions may be made to Kirby's Shady Oak AFC Home.
