Kathleen "Katie" Pohl, 93, of Rosebush and formerly of Beal City passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Rosebush Manor with her loving family by her side. Katie was born February 25, 1930, in Isabella County, Michigan, daughter of the late Julius A. and Bertha A. (Dole) Schumacher. A 1949 graduate of Beal City High School, Katie married Gerald Pohl on November 29, 1952, at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Beal City. She loved to play cards and belonged to a card club. An avid golfer, Katie once recorded a hole-in-one. She and Gerald drove across the United States to follow nephew, Dan Pohl, on the PGA Tour, and loved any road trips with Gerald, sometimes on a moment's notice. She often attended sporting events of her children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren. Whenever the grandchildren came to visit, they were sure to find a full cookie jar of delicious homemade cookies. Katie was the most selfless, loving, and caring individual who set an example for her family. Katie is survived by her children, Gary (Lynn) Pohl of Beal City, Sue (Tom) Scully of Mt. Pleasant, Cindy (Doug) Gepford of Mt. Pleasant, Steve (Mary) Pohl of Beal City, Brenda (Rob) Brickner of Mt. Pleasant, Jane (Henry) Block of Beal City, Joyce (Richard) Hahn of Beal City, Julie (Marty) Fox of Beal City, Lori (Dave) Smalley of Grand Rapids and Bob (Jayme) Pohl of Midland; 27 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; sister, Carol (Leonard) Swan of Mt. Pleasant; in-laws, Nancy Schumacher of White Lake, Roselynn Pohl of Mt. Pleasant, Dolores (Jim) Epple of Mt. Pleasant, Rosie (Dick) Smith of Au Gres, and Ernestine (Richard) Pohl of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Bertha Schumacher; husband, Gerald Pohl; siblings, Anna Marie Klumpp and Kenneth Schumacher; and in-laws, Stan Klumpp, Donald and Florence Pohl, Raymond and Laura Pohl, Richard Pohl, Howard and Delores Pohl, Mary and Keith Bowers, Maxine and Harris Diehl, and Melvin Pohl. A Funeral Mass for Katie will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 28, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City. Father Thomas J. McNamara will preside. Following the Rite of Committal at St. Joseph Cemetery, all are invited to the Beal City Knights of Columbus Hall for a meal. The family will receive friends in the gathering room of the church on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Rosebush Manor, or St. Joseph Church or School. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home.
