A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Beal City with Father Patrick Jankowiak presiding. Kathryn was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Remus, daughter of the late Willis and Mamie (Martin) Appelgreen. She graduated from Sherman Township Agriculture School and attended Lansing Business School. She worked at Oldsmobile in Lansing until she married Howard Vance Bunk Wood on June 27, 1945, in San Marcos, TX. In 1968 she was employed by Evart Products Company until her retirement in 1980. Kathryn was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, served on the Weidman School Board for three terms, and was a 4-H leader for many years. But her greatest accomplishment and treasure was her family. She took a personal interest in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing pleased her more than a big family gathering at the farm. Kathryn is survived by the love of her life of nearly 66 years, Bunk Wood; seven children, Alan Wood and Gloria (Larry) McLachlan, both of Weidman, Diane (Donald) Johansen of Rockford, Jeanne (Steve) Metcalf of Mecosta, Gale (Andrea) Wood of Weidman, Mary Ellen (David) Butler of Blanchard, and Dean (Tina) Wood of East Leroy; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Vada (Arden) Pridgeon of St. Joseph and Rita (Robert) Modderman of Grand Rapids; brothers, Donald Appelgreen of Mt. Pleasant and Walt (Ann) Appelgreen of Chippewa Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann Suman; infant son, Howard Lynn Wood; grandson, Dennis Metcalf; granddaughter, Hope Suman; and brothers, Gerald and Martin Appelgreen.
