Kathy Welsh, 50, of Alma died unexpectedly Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008 in Benzie County near Traverse City. Her funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Lux Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Nancy Casey Fulton officiating. Cremation will take place following the service. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service begins. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to her son, Garrett Burrows. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Kathy was born Jan. 17, 1958, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Donald Edward and Judith Lee (Collin) Welsh. She received her Bachelors degree in social work from Central Michigan University. She was a corrections officer at Huron Valley Mens Facility in Ann Arbor and also at St. Louis Correctional Facility. Some of her favorite pastimes included cooking, family history, buying and selling antiques, working with and showing horses, and Karaoke. She also sang in a band and enjoyed various forms of art. She had been attending Potters House Family Worship. Kathy is survived by her son, Garrett Burrows; her mother, Judy Welsh of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Linda and Gerard Vogel and their children, Marcus and Whitley; and brother, Jeffrey Welsh and his children, Josh, Jake, Nicole, Alicia, Donald, and Rebecca. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald in 1992; maternal grandparents, Russell and Isabel Collin; and paternal grandparents, Roy and Ruby Welsh.
