Kay M. Stroyan, 87, of Spring Lake, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004. Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004 at Lux Funeral Home with Father Philip Gallagher presiding. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant Veterans Memorial Library, 301 S. University, Mt. Pleasant MI 48858. Kay was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Muskegon Heights, the daughter of Andrew and Nora (Hickey) Ross. She married Homer H.R. Stroyan on June 3, 1944 in Georgia. She received her Masters degree in Teaching from Columbia University Teachers College and later taught at Vowels School for 19 years. She also wrote a weekly column for the Morning Sun regarding the Mt. Pleasant Library. She was active in Mt. Pleasant Womens Kiwanis Club, and Eagle Club. In 1994 she received the Community and Leadership Award from Toastmasters. She also belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed reading and writing and loved teaching education at all levels. Kay is survived by a sister Bernadette (Arthur) Anderson of Portage; nieces and nephews, Mary Royce of Dexter, Jean (Roger) Rose of Muskegon, Joan (Scott) VanKampen of Troy, Paul (Janet) Royce of Allendale; great-nephews Jeffrey Rose of Muskegon, Brandan and Andrew VanKampen of Troy; great-nieces Ashley and Megan VanKampen of Troy; and one sister-in-law Genia Stroyan of Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband H.R. in 1977; and sister and brother-in-law Marcella and Erwin Royce.
