Keith Bowers, 89, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Thomas J. McNamara presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 3 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday one hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Sacred Heart Academy Foundation or Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Keith was born Aug. 15, 1921, in Central Lake, the son of the late Edwin L. and Nellie M. (Wilson) Bowers. He married Mary Pohl on June 9, 1951, at St. Philomena Church in Beal City. A veteran of the Navy Air Corp, Keith served in the South Pacific during World War II from 1942-1945. He was employed by Dow Chemical as a sales representative. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Knights of Columbus Council 1297, and the VFW Post 3033. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting. But mostly, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Keith is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary; three children, Lyn (Steve) Doerr of Holt, Douglas Bowers of Bay City, and Patrick Bowers of San Francisco, CA; three grandchildren, Chris (Jenny) Doerr of Holt, Eric (Jordan Roy) Bowers of Lansing and Brett Bowers of Traverse City; four great-grandchildren, Sylvia, Cabal, Max and Carley; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Doerr in 2000; two brothers, Kenneth and William Bowers; and sister, Florence Doyle.
