Kelly Marie Schafer, aged 61, of Beal City, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 10, 2025 at her home. Born on February 19, 1964 in Port Huron, Michigan, she was the cherished daughter of James H. and Barbara A. (Curtiss) McMullen. Kelly was a devoted wife to Kurt Schafer, whom she married on September 4, 1993, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Karly, Logan, and Noah 'Buddy'.
A proud 1982 graduate of Beal City High School, Kelly dedicated her career to Beal City Public Schools, where she served as the Athletic and Counseling Secretary since 2007. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her three granddaughters: Briar, Isla, and Violet.
Kelly is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Kurt; her children, Karly (David) Gibson of Wixom, MI, Logan (Hunter Ruby) Schafer, and Noah 'Buddy' Schafer, both of Denver, CO; her father, Jim McMullen; her siblings, twin-sister, Kerry Steele, Jeff (Annette) McMullen, Curt McMullen, and Tory (Lori) McMullen; her parents-in-law, Dick and Gerry Schafer; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Barb McMullen.
The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 15, from 3-7 p.m. Kelly's life will be celebrated during a private family service, followed by cremation.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Alzheimer's Association, or the Mt Pleasant Area Community Foundation to benefit the future "Kelly's Kids" fund, a memorial fund being created to provide financial assistance to Beal City students in need. Kelly found purpose in ensuring all students were taken care of and had the necessities to participate in every opportunity. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
