Larry Mason, 77, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, at his home. Larry was born Sept. 13, 1939, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late Franklin T. and Sylvia M. (Adams) Mason. A 1957 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Larry married Joyce Stoneham on Feb. 14, 1979 in Rosebush. He was employed as a mechanic for Chippewa Lanes for 48 years; the first four as a pin setter downtown and the other 44 at the bowling alley on Mission Street. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, golfing, woodworking, and bike riding, but more than any of these, bowling was his favorite. He was inducted into the Mt. Pleasant Bowlers Hall of Fame in 1989. He was a member of the VFW Post 3033 and volunteered much of his time to the Commission on Aging, mainly because he enjoyed helping those in need. Larry is survived by two children, Eleanor Potter of Parma, MI and James (Barb) Mason of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, Catherine (Steven) Walker, Susan (Ryan) Bontrager, and Barbara LaBree; seven great-grandchildren, Lucky, Levert, Kendale, Wyatt, Zak, Zoey, and Kruz; and his sister, Kathy (Randy) Cook of Brethren, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce in 2012; sister, Velda Reed; and brother, Richard Mason. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be interred at Memorial Gardens Cemetery next summer. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Commission on Aging, VFW Post 3033, or MidMichigan Hospice. Envelopes are available at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home.
