Laverne Hutchinson

LaVerne Hutchinson, 79, of Bear Lake, passed away at home with his loving wife of 56 years by his side. He was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Owosso, the son of the late Enos and Flora (Curtis) Hutchinson. He received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology from Ferris State College. He married Anna Genter in 1954 in Ludington. For 10 years Verne owned and operated Vernes Pharmacy in Lansing. He later owned and operated Onekama Drug Store and Vernes Emporium for about 17 years, after which he retired. Verne enjoyed buying and selling antiques and riding his high wheel bicycle in local parades. Verne is survived by his wife, Anna; four children, Dale (Lorraine) Hutchinson of North Carolina, John (Kathleen) Hutchinson of Merrill, Diane Karcher of South Dakota, and Holly (Troy) Milks of Lowell; and seven grandchildren, Will Hutchinson, Patrick and Matthew Hutchinson, Kyle and Jennifer Karcher, and Torie and Haley Milks. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Zella, Delta, Harold, and Ella. Cremation has already taken place. A memorial service is planned for a later date.
