Lawrence A. Boyce, 79, of Mt. Pleasant died Saturday, October 25, 2003 at home surrounded by his family. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Monday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Lawrence was born Nov. 12, 1923, in Coleman, the son of Alfred and Gertrude (Ettinger) Boyce. As a Technician Corporal of the U.S. Army during World War II, Lawrence drove amphibious tractors in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre from 1943-1946. He received numerous medals and battle stars during that period. On August 10, 1946, he married Honora Lorraine OGrady at St. Cecilia Church in Clare. Lawrence then joined the National Air Guard. After it became federalized he was now a member of the U.S. Air Force where he served as a Technical Sargeant at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona from 1951-1953, during the Korean Conflict. Upon his discharge from the Air Force he began working for the State of Michigan in charge of warehousing army supplies in Battle Creek and in Lansing. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family. Lawrence is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Lorraine of Mt. Pleasant; four children, Cheryl (Bud) Humphrey of Bellaire, Lawrence A. (Theresa) Boyce II of West Branch, Robert (Linda) Boyce of Big Rapids, and Mary Boyce of Saginaw; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; four brothers, Edward Boyce of Grand Rapids, Dale (Barbara) Boyce of Coleman, Clayton (Letah) Boyce of Lake Odessa, and Donald (Janet) Boyce of Mendon; two sisters, Norma (Charles) Adams and Dorothy (Gene) Batten, both of Mendon; and a step-brother, David (Doris) Wolford of Kentwood. He was preceded in death by his parents.
