Leroy E. McGuirk, 66, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Thursday, July 18, 2002, at his daughters home in Rockford. His funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, July 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest in Las Vegas next to his late wife, Ginger. Immediately following the funeral, a procession of trucks will escort Leroy through town honoring the career he was so dedicated to. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Saturday and Sunday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Monday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Michigan Community Hospital to maintain the emergency room salt water aquarium, originally dedicated in memory of Ginger McGuirk. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Leroy was born April 4, 1936, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of James and Mamie (Vijtech) McGuirk. He married Virginia Ginger Glossinger on August 1, 1959, in New Buffalo, MI. He immediately entered the U.S. Army and served in the Corps of Engineers from 1959-1961. Most know him for his love and passion for excavating. Leroy followed in the steps of his father and continued the business his father founded in 1943, Jim McGuirk and Sons. He enjoyed cards and traveling to Las Vegas with his wife, Ginger. He will be missed by the community, his business associates and his friends, especially those who shared coffee with him every morning at local restaurants. Leroy leaves behind three children, Sandra (Patrick) Dean of Rockford and their children, Nicholas and Ginger, Leroy Chuck (Jennifer) McGuirk of Mt. Pleasant and their daughter, Paige, and Richard (Julianne) McGuirk of Mt. Pleasant and their sons, Thomas and Trevor. He is also survived by a brother, James McGuirk of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Rose Marie (Joe) West of Clare, Sonya (Charlie) Albaugh of Oil City, and JoAnn (Menard) Nehrt of Galena, MO; and his mother-in-law, Helen (Clarence) Kunkel of Thorton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Virginia Ginger McGuirk in 1998.
