Lionel W. Block, 70, of Beal City, passed away September 28, 2004 at home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 30, at St. Joseph The Worker Church in Beal City with Father John Cotter presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2-9 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday from 9:30 until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Gratiot Area Hospice or Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Lionel was born March 16, 1934, in Isabella County, the son of Edward and Marie (Coughlin) Block. He married Marion Verleger on June 14, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He spent his life as a dairy farmer. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing and watching sports, especially the Detroit Lions. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3651, the Michigan Milk Producers Association, Farm Bureau, and a member of St. Joseph The Worker Church. Lionel is survived by his wife, Marion Block of Beal City; ten children, Christy (Jim) Shock of Mt. Pleasant, Yvonne (Bob) Monk of Merrill, Cindy Parker and her fiance, Chuck Baldwin of Cadillac, Peggy (Dan) Methner of Remus, Sherry (Chris) Gruss of Beal City, Sandy (Mike) Yuncker of Beal City, Tammy (Steve) Aldrich of Riverdale, Phil (Terri) Block of Beal City, Steve (Lori) Block of Alma, and Tim (Buffy) Block of St. Louis; 29 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Jim) Endres of Mt. Pleasant, and Wenonah (Bill) Beltinck of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters-in-law, Rita Block of Beal City, Darlene Block-Riley of Beal City, and Leona Block-Benson of Morley; a brother-in-law Jock Ruhle of Coleman; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Richard, Donald, and Stanley; one sister, Mildred.
