Lois Elaine Doerr was born July 10, 1929, in Remus, Michigan, to Leonard and Florence (Foster) Simmons. She married Ronald Francis Doerr August 5, 1948, at Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Lois graduated from Remus Consolidated Schools and went on to attend Central Michigan University. She was secretary-treasurer of Doerr Heating for many years during which she also raised five children.
Lois was an active member of Sacred Heart Church where she was a Eucharistic minister and past president of the Altar Society. She was active in many ways including knitting for the Commission on Aging, playing a mean game of Euchre, bowling, shopping, as well as a famous multiple Skip-Bo tournament winner and enjoying annual birthday visits from her family from throughout the country.
Lois is survived by her children: Stephen (Sherry) of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; Lynette (Brian) Barker of Kyle, Texas; Charlene Letson of Beaverton, Oregon; Kevin (Pamela) Doerr of Cary, North Carolina; and Holly (Jim) Verwey of Beaverton, Oregon. Eight grandchildren also remain: Christopher (Jennifer) Doerr of Holt, Michigan; Aaron (Christa) Doerr of Raleigh, North Carolina; Lauryn Doerr of Durham, North Carolina; Tiffany (Stephen) Rabb of Round Top, Texas; Stephanie (Sean) Marxson of Beaverton, Oregon; Sean (Jennifer) Letson of Midland, Michigan; and Sydney (Cody) Griffith of Salem, Oregon, and Case Verwey of Beaverton, Oregon. Lois was blessed to also have eleven precious great-grandchildren with a twelfth on the way in February. Many dear nieces and nephews also survive.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, her parents, and all of her siblings as well as two of her daughters-in-law, Lynette Bowers Doerr, Sue Switzer Doerr, and one of her sons-in-law, Steve Letson, and her grandson Scott Michael Doerr.
The family wishes to thank Crestwood Assisted Living for the care they provided to Mom for the past several years and the hospice care provided by The Care Team in the past several weeks.
A Funeral Mass for Lois will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant. Father Fred Kawka will preside. Following the Rite of Committal at Calvary Cemetery, all are invited to the Lincoln Reception for a meal. The family will receive friends at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday one hour prior to Mass. Donations can be made to Sacred Heart Church or Commission on Aging, in Lois's name.
