Lois Smith, 78, of Weidman, passed away Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, as a result of an automobile accident. Her memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 19, at Mt. Pleasant Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1730 E. Pickard Rd., with Pastor Darryl Bentley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Seventh Day Adventist Church. Envelopes are available at the church or at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Lois was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Southington, CT, the daughter of Stuart and Alma (Whitehead) Dilger. She married Herbert J. Smith on March 19, 1951, in Waterbury, CT. She and her husband moved to Weidman in 1987 from Hartland, MI. She was very active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church serving as Deaconess and Treasurer. Some of her favorite pastimes were baking cookies, reading, and writing letters. She and her husband spent their winters in Ruskin, FL. Lois is survived by her husband of 58 years, Herbert; six children, Lloyd (Sally) Smith of Trenton, Gail Costie of Kalamazoo, Mark (Alice) Smith of Corbin, KY, Steven Smith of Kalamazoo, Lois Reblin of Pontiac, and David Smith of Westland; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way; three siblings, Franklin Doc Dilger of Wolcott, CT, Marilyn (Joe) Dunn of Wolcott, CT, Raymond (Connie) Dilger of Waterbury, CT; sister-in-law, Marion Dilger of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three siblings, Stuart Gibb Dilger, Althea Sis LaVasseur, and Lloyd Dilger.
