Louis John Franz, 88, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Troy, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Woodland Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant. Per Louies wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service, along with a celebration of life for Louie, will take place at Island Park in Mt. Pleasant on Saturday, October 13 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jodie Diehl officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Interment of his ashes will take place in Trout Creek, Montana on a later date. Louis was born October 15, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Paul and Zervia (St. Marie) Franz. He joined the U.S. Forestry Service in 1947 and later became a tool & die maker. Self-employed since 1964, he retired in 1991 to spend time tinkering with his toys. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, flea markets and tinkering with anything made of heavy metal. He enjoyed listening to music, watching PBS and loved sharing the things he learned with family and friends. Right up to the time of his death he was always thinking and looking for new and better ways to improve upon anything he thought could be done more efficiently. Louis is survived by his daughters, Jenny (Roland) Franz-Savoie, Yvonne Black, Misty Almero and Shannon (Dan) Peak; grandchildren, Christopher Franz, Jason Blumberg, Zachary Blumberg, Destiny Head, Jeremy Ferguson, Tanya Black, Johnny Almero, Sarah Almero and Eric Almero; and many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Zervia Franz; brother, Marshall Franz; sisters, Elaine Brooks and Madeline Franz; and beloved daughter, Cynthia LeTourneau.
