Louise A. Preston, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 12, 2009. She died very peacefully with loved ones by her side at The Prestige Centre in Mt. Pleasant, MI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski presiding. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to Mass. Graveside services will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Freeport, IL on Wednesday, June 17, at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice, 2397 S. Meridian Rd., Mt Pleasant, MI. 48858. Envelopes are also available at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., Mt. Pleasant. Louise was born Feb. 2, 1916, in Stuart, Nebraska, the eighth of ten children born to Donat and Emma (Pettinger) Kunz. She married Paul L. Preston Sr. in 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska and together they raised their two sons, Paul and Donald. For over 40 years they lived in Freeport, Illinois. Louise was a stay at home mother during the early years of her marriage, and then worked for Burgess Battery and Stephenson County Nursing Home until she retired in her late sixties. She was an active member of both Saint Joseph and Saint Thomas Parishes in Freeport. Her favorite pastimes were visiting with family, painting, and playing cards. Louise will be remembered as a woman of strong Catholic faith, her wonderful love of family, her funny sense of humor, and for the great example she set as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her sons Paul (Kathy) Preston of Mt. Pleasant, MI and Donald of Chicago, IL; her sister, Florence; her brothers Burt and Bud; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Paul in 1985; her father and mother; her brothers, George, Leo, Albert, and Emil; her sisters, Callista Weichman and Marcella Bigelow; and her daughter-in-law, Betty Preston. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to all the staff at the Prestige Centre in Mt Pleasant for the professional and wonderful care they provided Mom at their facility for the last year and a half. They would also like to thank Woodland Hospice for their tender and exceptional end of life care these last few months.
