Mabel A. Vanhorn

Mabel VanHorn, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 30, 2018. Mabel was born April 12, 1930, in Lewis County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Richard and Laura (Rickett) Smith. She married Robert VanHorn on January 22, 1974, in Mt. Pleasant. Some of Mabels favorite pastimes were playing the guitar, crocheting, gardening, fishing and spending time with family and friends. She was a wonderful and loving mother who was loved by all who knew her. Mabel is survived by four children, Laura (Terry) Keeney of Florida, William (Tina) Maynard of Weidman, Sandra (James) Weaver of Reed City, and Sharon (Ricky) Berry of Spartanburg, SC; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; sister in-law, Joanne Smith of Mt. Pleasant; and step-daughters, Pam Schneider of New York and Christine Kelley of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Laura Smith; husband, Robert; son, Howard Maynard; grandson Duane; and brothers, William and Russell Smith. Mabels funeral will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 6, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow at Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery following the luncheon. The family will receive friends on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
