Marc William McDonald, age 53, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor. Born on December 15, 1972, in Owosso, Marc was the eldest of three children born to Gary L. and Katherine E. (Bailey) McDonald. He was joined by his younger sisters, Melanie and Marlena. He was a 1990 graduate of Owosso High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Albion College, where he was part of the National Champion football team in 1994. He furthered his education with a master's degree in geology from Michigan State University.
Marc's career spanned over 20 years at ERG Environmental, where he most recently served as the director of operations. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, embarking on adventure hunts each year to places like Alaska and the western United States where he hunted moose, caribou, bear, elk, and mule deer. Marc was also passionate about fishing and played a key role in organizing 'man camp' annually for his friends and children.
Marc's family has cherished their farm in Oil City, known as the 'Old Farm,' since 1887. It was a special place for family gatherings, especially during the opening day of deer season and for collecting and making maple syrup each spring.
Marc's marriage to Anna Parker was blessed with two children, Parker and Mazzey. On October 5, 2018, he married Jamie N. McDonald in Midland County, becoming a step-father to Greg Buckner. Marc is survived by his wife Jamie, his children Parker and Mazzey, his step-son Greg Buckner, his parents, Gary and Kathy McDonald of Owosso, his sisters Melanie (Dave) Lyons of Applegate and Marlena (Doug) Gano of Simpsonville, SC, and several nieces and nephews.
Marc's funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 12, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with celebrant Michelle Sponseller officiating. A luncheon will follow in Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 11, from 2-5 p.m. and Monday one hour before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
