Margaret Menna Cates

Margaret Cates, (known as "Jammy"), age 73, formally of Key West, FL, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. Margaret was born in Trenton, Michigan, on November 11, 1947, daughter of the late Joseph and Annie (Galli) Menna. Margaret graduated from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic School in 1966, then lived in Key West for 22 years. She later moved to Japan and other countries with her family. In 2007, she settled in Ocala, Florida, then moved to Michigan in 2014. Margaret liked to cook, read, travel, and garden. She also loved nature, but "Jammy" loved her grandchildren most of all. She was a big-hearted person who is dearly loved by many people all over the world. She was always ready to take the time to talk to friends and family. Margaret is survived by her daughter Marti Cherepanik and her daughter, Taylor of Lake Isabella; daughter, Sarah (Dennis) Umholtz and their daughters Savannah Cherepanik, Sophia Umholtz, and Sydney Umholtz of Ocala, Florida; brother Robert; daughter Christina (Kelly) Cates-Meredith; and son Dave (Kari) Cates and their daughters Piper and Marley Cates. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Maria Lasky; brother Richard Menna; and her first husband James Cherepanik in 1986.
