Marie Horanoff, 91, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Livonia, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Maplewood Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant. Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 5, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., Mt. Pleasant, with Pastor Brian Lamew of Mt. Pleasant Community Church officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to HopeWell Ranch, 650 N. School Rd., Weidman MI 48893. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Marie was born May 8, 1920, in Detroit, daughter of the late Albert and Matilda (Lutz) Hentz. In 1938 she graduated from Detroit McKenzie High School and worked as a secretary for General Motors. She was also a former reporter for the Livonia News. On May 1, 1954, Marie married Donald Horanoff at Hope Lutheran Church in Detroit and later became a member of Holy Cross Church in Livonia. Some of her favorite pastimes were bowling, flower gardening and metal detecting. Marie was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as someone who could strike up a conversation and make friends with anyone. Marie would always send a card or note to remember special occasions of family and friends. Marie was a loving wife for 57 years to Donald; mother of three sons, Paul Horanoff of Hartford, WI, Tom Horanoff of Bedminster, NJ and Brian (Deb) Horanoff of Mt. Pleasant; grandmother of six, Zachary and Daniel Horanoff, and Amanda Webb, Nicholas Horanoff, Nolan Webb and Natalie Horanoff; and sister to, Virginia Neal of South Haven. She was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Hentz.
