Marinus "Bill" Verwey, 91, of Rosebush, passed away Monday, October 21, 2024, at home with his family by his side. A Funeral Mass for Marinus will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, October 28, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Rosebush. Father Thomas McNamara will preside. Rite of Committal will be in St. Henry Cemetery followed by a luncheon at St. Henry Center. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. with the Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Monday one hour before Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation or Heartland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the church and funeral home. Marinus was born April 20, 1933, in Beal City, Michigan, son of the late Andrew C. and Margaret G. (Marhofer) Verwey. After graduating from Sacred Heart Academy in 1951, he was drafted by the U.S. Army. He served from 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict. Four days prior to his departure, Marinus married the love of his life, Mary Ann Sheahan, on May 9, 1953, at St. Henry Catholic Church. After his honorable discharge, Marinus attended Central Michigan University, earning a bachelor's degree in business. He was self-employed in real estate and insurance, working as a land man. His favorite pastimes were playing cards, euchre, pinochle, and cribbage. He was a former member of St. Henry/St. Charles Parish and current member of Sacred Heart Parish in Mt. Pleasant. Marinus is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary Ann; three children, Bill Verwey of Rosebush, Becky (Mike) McConnell of Rosebush, and Jim (Holly) Verwey of Beaverton, OR; six grandchildren, Briana (Kevin) Allen, Shane (Anna) McConnell, Megan Little, and Trace (Kallie) McConnell, and Sydney (Cody) Griffith and Case Verwey; 11 great grandchildren, Aidan, Keagen, and Easton, Grace, twins, Maeve and Jack, twins, Stella and Nora, Maeson and Griffin, and Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothea (Bob) Fitzpatrick; two brothers, John (Barb) Verwey and Joe (Dolly) Verwey; and in-laws, Jerry (Dorothy) Sheahan and Dick (Rosie) Sheahan.
