Marjorie A. Gottschalk

Marjorie (Marge) A. Gottschalk age 68 of Shepherd passed away on her 68th birthday, February 2, 2025, at the Laurels in Mount Pleasant with her family by her side. Marge was born February 2, 1957, in Bad Axe, Michigan. She was the first of four children born to Bernard and Florence (Goretski) Lasceski. She graduated from Kinde North Huron High School in 1975. On September 20, 1975, she married Duane Gottschalk at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kinde. Marge operated her own business, M&D Wallpapering and had painted and wallpapered until 2005. She was told by many that she was a person of perfection for that type of work. She was employed by the family business, JD Metalworks in Clare until her retirement in 2019. Marge was an avid bowler in the Mt. Pleasant area and was known as "Da Polish Kid" on the lanes. She had served as the league president for many years on several leagues. She had served as a director on the Mt. Pleasant Bowlers Hall of Fame Board and a director on the Mt. Pleasant Bowlers Association Board. In 1998 Marge was inducted into the Mt. Pleasant Bowlers Hall of Fame and, at the age of 41, was the youngest woman to be inducted. In 2003 she was invited to compete in the Professional Women's Bowling Association U.S. Open. She really enjoyed bowling with the 269 bowlers from five countries in that prestigious event. Marge also bowled in several national, state and local tournaments. Her team finished first in team event in 2011 in the Northern State Tournament. She did receive several other awards and honors for her bowling over the years. After having a right shoulder injury, she had no excuse not to bowl so she bowled left-handed in three leagues for a couple of years. She earned a triplicate award bowling left-handed and cashed at several tournaments. She really enjoyed Polish music and going to Polka dances. She loved spending time with the grandkids, family and friends. Marge enjoyed her bowling, softball, golf, playing cards, working with crafts, mowing lawn and traveling with Duane to casinos and many other destinations. Grandma Marge always had something special planned when the kids were coming over. Her grandkids, nieces, and nephews will miss her clowning around with them when they were together. She was a person that was always willing to give a helping hand. She had served as a Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart Parish where she was a member, and worked bingo back in the day. She also worked as an election inspector for Union Township for many years. She had an incredible ability to turn a small life event into a celebration you would never forget. She will be remembered for her practical jokes and someone that was always fun to be around. She leaves behind many special memories for everyone who knew her. Marge is survived by her husband of 49 years, Duane; two sons, Michael (Kristin) Gottschalk of Sparta and Curtis (Amanda) of Beal City; and five precious grandchildren, Katie (Nick), Shelby, Jared, Blake and Ben, that she enjoyed so very much. Recently she was blessed with a great-grandson Chase. She is also survived by a sister, Barb (Dick) Toner of Pigeon; two brothers, Ken (Ann) Lasceski of Sebewaing and Rich (Amy) Lasceski of Utica; several nieces and nephews; and in-laws Ron Genis of Harbor Beach and Ron and Mary Gottschalk of Port Austin. Marge was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Florence Lasceski; grandparents, Allen and Viola Goretski and John and Anna Lasceski; and in-laws Charles and Lillian Gottschalk and Doreen Genis.

A Funeral Mass for Marge will be celebrated on Friday February 7, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant. Father Andy Booms will preside. After Mass her ashes will be buried in Calvary Cemetery followed by a luncheon at Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home Thursday from 3-7 p.m. with the Vigil Service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday one hour before Mass.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Parish or the Mt. Pleasant Bowlers Hall of Fame. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Marge enriched our lives and we are truly blessed to be a part of hers. She will be missed dearly. The family would like to thank Dr. Shankariah, Dr. Safadi, Heartland Hospice, and the staff at the Laurel's for their care for Marge during her illness.
