Mark E. Coan

Mark Everett Coan, 54, of Mt Pleasant, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018, at his home. Mark was born November 7, 1963, in Olney, Illinois, son of the late Walter and Eleanor (Anderson) Coan. The oil field industry brought Marks parents to Michigan in the late 1960s. Just as Mark celebrated his high school graduation from Quincy Michigan, his father and oldest brother thought it was time to break out a new worker! This is where Mark found out quickly what hard work was all about. Over a period of 22 years Mark worked in the oil field business. Of those 22 years, 11 were spent proudly working for Bigard & Huggard Drilling in Mt. Pleasant. Mark also owned and operated Mid-State Builders for 16 years. Marks expertise took him to projects all over the state of Michigan. In 1988, Mark met Brenda Henry, whom he married on January 8, 1993 in Mt. Pleasant. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Brenda Coan; two loving daughters, Nicole and Jessica Coan, both of Mt. Pleasant; five siblings, Susan Stout of Hillsdale, Elaine (Larry) Converse of Allen, Cindy (Ron) Quimby of Quincy, Steven (Sarah) Coan of Allen, and LaJeana Hall of Kalkaska; sister-in-law, Lori Coan of Allen; and several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Lannie Quimby; brother, Dale Coan; brother-in-law, Doug Stout; and niece, Riley Jean Ash. Marks funeral will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Saturday, September 8, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service begins. Following the service, a luncheon will be held in Lincoln Reception Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to assist with expenses or to Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Mark.
