Martha "Lois" Franz

Lois Franz, 85, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of LaGrange, IN, passed away Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Central Michigan Community Hospital with her family by her side. Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at Clinton Frame Church, 63846 County Rd. 35, Goshen IN, with her nephew, Pastor Herman Kauffman officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. until the service begins. Burial will be in Benton Lutheran Cemetery near Millersburg, IN. The family is being served by Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Lois was born May 25, 1925, in Kenmare, ND, the daughter of William and Elma (Harris) Kauffman. She grew up in LaGrange, IN and has lived in Mt. Pleasant for over 20 years. She worked as a cook and interior decorator, retiring 23 years ago. She enjoyed crafts and painting birdhouses. Lois is survived by three children, Janice (Ralph) Teel of Kendalville, IN, Ron (Kathy) Bontrager of Mt. Pleasant and Ray Bontrager of Millersburg, IN; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Frank (Evelyn) Kauffman of Goshen, IN. She was preceded in death by two children, Robert Bontrager and Carol Ackerly; four grandchildren; four brothers, Marvin, Roy, Dean and Floyd Kauffman; and three sisters, Elsie Zook, Hazel Hostetler, and Iva Merrifield.
