Martin E. Trombley

Martin Trombley, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022, at McLaren Hospital in Flint Michigan. He was born April 2, 1940, in Detroit, the first child of Earl and Anne (Krasutsky) Trombley. He would later welcome his younger siblings, Thomas and Annette, into the home. Marty graduated from St. Paul on the Lake High School in Grosse Pointe Farms in 1958. While a sophomore, he met the woman who would steal his heart, Sandra Florkey. After enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1959, Marty proposed to Sandy. A date was set, but an impending order to be transferred to Korea threatened to delay their marriage. So Sandy took to prayer, saying three Novenas for three straight days. Out of a platoon of 104, Marty was one of only four that was able to stay in the states. The two would marry on October 3, 1959, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Harper Woods. He was stationed in Fort Ritchie, Maryland, and, after his honorable discharge in 1961, Marty and Sandy settled in Detroit. With his experience as a military police officer, Marty began working for the Detroit Police Department and subsequently transferred to Grosse Pointe Woods and later to Traverse City. In 1980, Marty was offered and accepted the job as Director of Public Safety in Mt. Pleasant. He served in that capacity until his retirement in 1998. For the next five years he was employed by Mid Michigan Community College as the Dean of Continuing Education and permanently retired in 2003. Marty was immensely respected by both his peers and his community. A member of Sacred Heart Parish, he was devoted to his Catholic faith, serving in many capacities within the church, including as a lay minister, sacristan, and daily communicant. People from all walks of life sought his advice. He was a mentor, a trusted advisor, and a wonderful role model. The sacrifices he made for others were too numerous to mention. Selfless in nature, Marty was born to serve. He loved and adored his family beyond measure. Marty leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Sandy; four children, Michael (Monique) Trombley, Renee Rourke, Suzette (Mark) Ludka, and John (Silvia) Trombley; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two siblings, Tom Trombley and Annette Fischer; in-laws, Beverly Smith, Sharon Shink, and Sue (Paul) Ellis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marty was preceded in death by his parents; and sister in-law, Dolores DiGiacomo. A Funeral Mass for Marty will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Thomas Held as celebrant. It will be live streamed through Marty's obituary on the funeral home's website. Rite of Committal will be in Calvary Cemetery concluding with a luncheon in Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7:30 p.m. with a time for sharing (and Rosary) beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Sacred Heart Parish (Mt. Pleasant), St. Joseph the Worker Parish (Beal City), or the Isabella County Soup Kitchen. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  To sign the online guest book or leave a condolence for the family please visit www.CharlesRLux.com.
