Mary Ann Brown

Mary Ann Brown, 69, of Mt. Pleasant died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005 at home with her family by her side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wed. Feb. 16, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Burial will be in Denver Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wed. from 10-11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan (401 S. Main, Mt. Pleasant MI 48858) or Pardee Cancer Fund (4005 Orchard Dr., Midland MI 48670). Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Mary Ann was born Feb. 11, 1936, in Hillman, the daughter of Alphonse and Elizabeth (Creamer) LaFleche. She graduated from Hillman High School in 1953 and married Gary Brown Feb. 20, 1954 in Hillman. They lived in various places throughout their marriage including Onaway, Monroe, Jackson, Houghton Lake, Vanderbilt, Gaylord, Delwin, and finally, Mt. Pleasant. She had worked as a teachers aid, a dental receptionist, and eventually retired as a secretary from Brown Milling in 1998. She was a full-time wife, soul mate, and mother. Some of her favorite pastimes were playing softball, traveling, gardening, baking, shopping, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, boating, and riding motorcycles. But her true love was her family. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren who will miss her dearly, especially when it comes time to bake Christmas cookies. Mary Ann is survived by her husband of almost 51 years, Gary Brown; five children, Jerry (Sheila) Brown of Midland, Ken (Barbara) Brown of Albany, GA, Mary Kay (David) Grewe of Traverse City, Cathy (Duncan McCall) OBrien of Traverse City, and Nancy (Ron) Demock of Flushing; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 10 brothers, Joseph (Lorene) LaFleche of Hillman, George (Dorothy) LaFleche of Alpena, Gerald (Elaine) LaFleche of Novi, Donald (Joan) LaFleche of Alpena, Kenneth (Geri) LaFleche of Hillman, Merlin (Jackie) LaFleche of Alpena, Patrick (Susan) LaFleche of South Lyon, Albert (Marjeane) LaFleche of Hillman, Glen (Karen) LaFleche of Presque Isle, and Alphonse LaFleche of Hillman; three sisters, Elizabeth Dubie of Herron, Rosemary (Arthur) Hunt of Hillman, and Margaret (James) Cavanagh of North Pole, Alaska; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
