Mary Lou Nowicki, 91, of Mt. Pleasant passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Crestwood Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant. Mary Lou was born on August 12, 1933, in Shawnee Mission Kansas, daughter of the late Harold and Elva (Holdren) Eklund. Mary Lou graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1951. After high school she continued her education at the University of Kansas, graduating with a degree in Music. Then she received her Masters in Music from the University of Alabama and a doctorate in Music from the University of Michigan. Mary Lou gave concerts all over Europe, Iceland and through out the United States. Her ultimate concert was playing for Pope John Paul II. Mary Lou married Forrest T. Robinson in 1953, and their marriage was blessed with two children, Allegra and Erik. Her second marriage was to Hans Nowicki in 1980. During this time, she taught at Central Michigan University and worked for her husband's medical practice. Mary Lou was a professional organist and enjoyed playing for the St. Johns Episcopal Church for more than 40 years. She was also the director of music at the church. In 2009 she married her current husband Gabriel Kney in Mt. Pleasant. Mary Lou enjoyed cooking, gardening, and her family. She will be missed by so many. Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Gabriel Kney of Canada; children, Allegra Blake of Mt. Pleasant, and Erik Robinson of Dewitt; grandchildren, Jessica Blake of Mt. Pleasant, and Ian Robinson of San Diego, CA; great granddaughter, Cordelia Blake. She is preceded in death by both parents; husband, Hans Nowicki in 2000; and brother, Harold Gene Eklund. Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be held on October 5, 2024, at the St, Johns Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St, Johns Choral Scholar Fund, envelopes will be available at the church.
