Mary Jo Swindlehurst, 68, of Tucson, AZ, formally of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday, May 3, 2024, in Tucson. Mary Jo was born on July 31, 1956, in Mt. Pleasant, daughter of the late Ralph "Bud" and Mary Ann (Ellerthorpe) Fisher. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1974. She attended Central Michigan University and received her degree as a licensed practical nurse. She was a nurse for 32 years. Her marriage to Charles Swindlehurst was blessed with three children, Darcie, Keeley and Jesse. Mary Jo enjoyed spending time outside laying by the pool and gardening and enjoyed her evenings, watching a good basketball game. She liked to cook, draw, and was passionate about lending a hand to anyone that needed help. Mary Jo was a beautiful skier and she liked to spend time with her cousins at the family chalet in Harbor Springs. Beyond anything, Mary Jo loved her family and the many friends she had in Michigan and Arizona. She is survived by her son, Jesse Swindlehurst of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Jake Loomis, Jett Feltman, Jenna Feltman, Camryn Swindlehurst, Seth Swindlehurst, Isla Swindlehurst, Trey Harris Smith II, Kingston Smith, and Rowen Smith; great grandchild, Liam Burtlett; sister, Sue (John) Giannotta; nieces and nephews, Aaron (Angie) White, Dana (Doug) Moore, and Kyle (Carrie) White; and cousins, JW Fisher, Catherine Webster, Janet Fisher, Tana Lee, and Robin Ellerthorpe. She was preceded in death by her parents; and daughters, Darcie Swindlehurst and Keeley Swindlehurst. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Jim Damitio officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Immediately following, a luncheon will be held in Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). Mary Jo's ashes will be interred in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Research Hospital.
